BINGHAMTON -- A disastrous second period sent the Adirondack Phantoms to a 7-0 loss at the hands of the Binghamton Senators on Thursday at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
The Phantoms are back home Friday night to host the Hershey Bears.
Josh Hennessy and Denis Hamel each scored twice as the Senators won their traditional Thanksgiving Day game. The Phantoms fell to 2-6 in road games this season.
Nic Riopel took the loss in goal, giving up four goals in just more than 25 minutes, ballooning his GAA from 2.70 to 3.34.
Hennessy scored a late first-period goal for Binghamton, and the floodgates opened in the second period. Kaspars Daugavins, Hennessy and Drew Bannister scored in the first six minutes of the period. Hamel made it 5-0 midway through the period on a long shot that got past replacement goalie Johan Backlund.
Hamel and Jim O'Brien scored third-period goals for the Senators. Andy Chiodo stopped 34 shots to get the shutout for Binghamton.
Loose Pucks: The Phantoms signed forward Trent Daavettila to a professional tryout contract before the game, calling him up from Kalamazoo of the ECHL. Daavettila, an ECHL rookie, scored 14 points in 14 games for Kalamazoo.
