To Will Doolittle's commentary on Nov. 13:
Sir, you profess a complete ignorance of how Congress should work. Like people who believe the Constitution provides a "separation of church and state," you also mistakenly believe that a congressman can vote to his whim yet still represent his constituency. You want it both ways just so long as your political ideologies are represented.
Congressman Murphy's "nay" vote was a hedge that was approved by Speaker Pelosi, as were others, so that Democrats in historically Republican districts can campaign on this "nay" vote to retain seats as the DNC. is expecting to lose seats in the mid-term election. To believe that it was anything other than a gamesman's tactic is naiveté on your part. Educated voters will know better than to be fooled by this ploy.
We are no longer represented in Congress, Mr. Doolittle; it is about gaining and retaining power over the people by the socialists usurping the Democratic Party. Do yourself a favor, Mr. Doolittle, read the Federalist Papers, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of The United States; if then you still want to be a socialist, then there are socialist countries. Bon voyage.
The United States is a free republic and will stay so while I and others who have sworn to defend her draw breath; my oath did not expire with my enlistment, I will defend her and her Constitution against enemies both foreign and domestic. I will have liberty or death from any government that seeks to dictate my earnings, expenditures, civil behavior or duties with no good faith or fair and true representation of, by and for the people.
If you think I sound like a radical, I know one man who would agree with you, King George III of England.
Publius.
