GLENS FALLS -- A Fort Edward man was charged with two felonies and a misdemeanor Thursday for a series of violent incidents that involved a woman he had been dating, police said.
Walter R. Caprood, 40, of Seminary Street faces counts of third-degree robbery, third-degree criminal mischief and third-degree assault, officials said.
He is accused of forcibly stealing jewelry on Oct. 23 from a woman he had been dating, breaking her cellphone on Oct. 6 and punching her in the face on Oct. 25, said Glens Falls Police Detective Sgt. Peter Casertino.
She came forward to police after the assault and reported the other incidents, Casertino said.
Police had been searching for Caprood since the report, and he was arrested without incident early Thursday when he returned to the woman's Glen Street apartment, police said.
The jewelry, which included a diamond ring, has been recovered, Casertino said.
Caprood was arraigned in City Court and sent to Warren County Jail without bail. He has at least two prior felony convictions, so bail could not be set, police said.
