LAKE GEORGE -- A Warren County sheriff's sergeant has been charged with misdemeanor aggravated harassment in connection with allegations he sent an unwanted text message to an acquaintance, officials said.
Daniel J. Hill, 41, of Horicon was charged Thursday after an investigation by the Sheriff's Office into a message he allegedly sent to a female acquaintance from Lake George who was not identified. The Sheriff's Office would not comment on the substance of the text message in question.
Under state Penal Law, the charge of aggravated harassment is brought when a person "communicates" with a person "in a manner likely to cause annoyance or alarm."
Undersheriff Robert Swan said in an e-mail that Hill has been suspended with pay, but the department would not comment further on any disciplinary action in the case.
Sheriff's Sgt. Tony Breen, president of the Warren County Police Benevolent Association, which represents's sheriff's sergeants and patrol officers, said he had no comment on the matter at this point.
"When the time's right, we'll represent him on departmental charges, but it's not a union issue unless they file departmental charges," Breen said.
