GLENS FALLS -- The state has reduced the minimum price for the old Glens Falls Armory on Warren Street to $350,000, after two separate previous offerings failed to draw anyone willing to pay $500,000.
The state Office of General Services announced Thursday it will conduct a sealed-bid auction for the building at 147 Warren St., next to the campus of The Hyde Collection art museum.
Bids must be submitted by 4 p.m. Dec. 15, and will be opened on Dec. 16 at the OGS office on the 26th floor of Corning Tower in Albany.
Call 474-4944 for information about how to place a bid.
The historic armory, built in 1895 of local limestone and brick, has been vacant since the local National Guard unit moved to a new facility in Queensbury earlier this year.
No one placed a bid at a public auction last month, which had a minimum bid of $500,000.
Rocco Musummeci, a retired New York City firefighter, did not place a bid despite being the only registered bidder, but said he was interested in the building if the minimum price was reduced.
Musummeci has said he would like to renovate the building either as a home for disabled veterans or as a residential facility for children with Down syndrome, a genetic developmental disability.
An earlier request for proposal process attracted only one proposal from local developer Peter Hoffman.
The state rejected the proposal because it was less than the $500,000 minimum price at the time.
Hoffman said recently he has since moved on to other projects and likely would not be bidding again.
