COLONIE -- A 75-year-old Saratoga man was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly stealing a safe from the insurance company where he formerly worked as a security guard.
Kenneth H. Zeller, of 496 Route 32, Schuylerville, was charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree burglary, both felonies, according to the Colonie Police Department.
Police said Zeller worked as a security officer at Blue Shield of Northeastern New York's 30 Century Hill Drive building up until a few weeks ago, when he was fired.
At about 10:39 p.m. on Tuesday, police said Zeller, armed with a handgun, entered the building, tied up the security guard on duty and stole a safe.
The safe and all of its contents were later located in the rear of the building.
Zeller was arrested at his home Wednesday morning after he was identified by the victim and other employees of the security business working at the location.
The guard was not injured during the robbery, and an investigation is underway to determine whether Zeller could face additional charges in Colonie and in Saratoga County.
A search by police of Zeller's home turned up numerous handguns and long guns, police said, though it had not been determined as of Wednesday if the handgun allegedly used in the robbery was among the weapons recovered.
Police said there is no indication anyone else was involved in the incident
