Two killed in Moreau car crash

STF Jon Davenport -jdavenport@poststar.com A single car accident along Route 32 in Moreau left two dead and one injured on Wednesday, November 11, 2009.

MOREAU -- Two teens were killed and another injured in a one-car crash Wednesday afternoon on Route 32, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office.

Matthew J. Habshi, 17, of Gansevoort, and Brianna A. Diorio, 15, of 45 White Birch Estates in Gansevoort, were pronounced dead at the scene, police reported.

Habshi lost control of his 1997 red Pontiac Trans Am while traveling north on Route 32, south of Fedor Road, at about 12:15 p.m., police said, when he failed to make it around a curve, leaving the roadway and striking a utility pole, which came down on the car.

Brandon Nelson, 17, of 39 Sanders Road in Queensbury, was also riding in Habshi's car at the time of the crash and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center for head injuries, police said.

Nelson's condition was not available as of 7 p.m., but a nurse at Albany Medical Center said an update would be available by 9:30 p.m.

Speed is being considered as a cause of the crash, police said.

Route 32 was closed for about four hours Wednesday afternoon.

Gansevoort and South Glens Falls fire departments responded to the scene, along with the Moreau Emergency Squad, a crew from National Grid and officers from the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office.
