THURMAN -- A county employee was injured on his day off when a tree fell on him early Wednesday in his back yard on High Street.
Don Vopleus, 57, was cutting a tree in his back yard when the tree fell and he was pinned under it, Town Supervisor Lawrence "Red" Pitkin said.
Pitkin said Vopleus is a Warren County employee in the Department of Public Works, but was on his day off when the accident happened.
He was slipping in and out of consciousness after the accident, Pitkin said, and he was airlifted to Albany Medical Center.
A spokeswoman at Albany Med said Vopleus' condition was serious as of 4 p.m. Wednesday.
The accident happened at about 9:30 a.m.
