Staff report

To provide incentive for regional residents and tourists to visit and spend time in Glens Falls, LARAC, in conjunction with Crandall Public Library, Business Improvement District (BID) and the city of Glens Falls, is presenting an opportunity for regional artists working in any medium to turn Adirondack chairs into works of art to be displayed throughout downtown Glens Falls during next summer.

Artists are invited to submit an application, including a fully realized, detailed rendering in color, depicting their proposed chair design on provided template, by Dec. 4.

A reception will be held in January 2010 for sponsors to choose their artists. They will make their choice from all submitted chair design templates, which will be displayed throughout the reception.

If a design is chosen by a sponsor, completed chairs will be due in March and will be displayed throughout Glens Falls beginning Memorial Day until Labor Day.

A public auction will be held Labor Day weekend where chairs will be sold to the highest bidders, with 25 percent of each auction chair sale price going directly to each individual artist.

Remaining funds raised by the project will be divided between the three sponsoring organizations - LARAC , Crandall Public Library and the Business Improvement District.

Artist packets are available for pick-up anytime at LARAC's Lapham Gallery. Notification of being chosen by a sponsor will be made by Jan. 31.
