Fashion will meet function for a good cause.
The "Lymphedema Awareness Fashion Show" will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the C.R. Wood Community Learning Center at Glens Falls Hospital.
The event was created by Vickie Yattow, an oncology resource nurse at the hospital, and Lisa Malette, a lymphedema specialist and physical therapist based out of the hospital's Corinth satellite location.
"This is the first time we've done a fashion show specifically for this, and we just want to get awareness out there for lymphedema, treatments and the issues that surround patients who have it," Yattow. said
The fashion show will include formal wear from Jacqueline's Bridal Shoppe in Glens Falls and clothing from BloomingDeals, a consignment shop in South Glens Falls.
In addition to the fashion show, attendees can bid on various gift baskets and gift certificates during the silent auction and visit with Mrs. New York, Nicole Palmer, who will be giving an encouraging speech.
The event, which has been about six months in the making, will be a donations-only admission, with funds going toward the purchase of lymphedema products that most insurance companies don't cover.
For more information on the event, contact Vickie Yattaw at 926-6639 or Lisa Malette at 654-7674.
