GLENS FALLS -- Jacob Van Eeden, 69, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, after losing his battle with lung cancer.
Jacob was born on Aug. 7, 1940 in Bussum, Holland. After completing horticulture school, he worked at the Botanical Gardens in Amsterdam. In 1968, Jacob moved, with his wife to Latham, N.Y., and ultimately settled in Saratoga Springs. He worked for the Saratoga Raceway as their head landscaper for more than 30 years. After retirement, Jacob moved to Camden, Maine for four years and returned to Glens Falls in
2005.
He was an avid lover of World War II history, art, coin collecting and keeping a beautiful garden.
Jacob is survived by two daughters, Sharon Navarra and her husband, Daniel of Saratoga Springs; Stephanie Hodgson and her husband, Dennis of Saratoga Springs; and two grandchildren.
There will be no services planned.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers that have touched Jacob and their lives these past 10 months.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Carleton Funeral Home Inc., 136 Warren St. in Glens Falls.
