Trivia test!

As we get ready for the Phantoms’ opener, how about a little Adirondack Red Wings trivia test?

I’m warning you, this is tough. Very tough. A good guess would be a victory on some of these. If you’re brave enough, send in your answers as a comment. I’ll post the answers in 24 hours.

Just remember what your teachers used to tell you: If you look it up on the Internet, you’re only cheating yourself.

1. What was the attendance for the Adirondack Red Wings’ first regular-season home game at the Civic Center (within, say, 300)?

2. What goalie played one period of a preseason game in 1993, and made news by being the “first” to do something?

3. What’s the most shots the A-Wings took in a playoff game, and did they win that game?

4. Which Red Wings wore the following uniform numbers: No. 55, No. 70, No. 77, No. 85?

5. Which player won the first three Community Service Awards, presented (I think) by the booster club?

6. Who has the most shutouts by a Red Wings goalie?

7. Who took over behind the bench when Barry Melrose was suspended for five games in 1990?

8. Who was the first Adirondack Red Wing to take a penalty shot (you are really good if you get this one)?

9. How many goals did Glenn Merkosky in his Adirondack career?

10. Which goaltender was known for lighting his cigarettes with an acetylene  blow torch (the old-fashioned big tanks, not the handheld ones of today), and later, with another team, was called “LT” because his hair was so long it obscured all but the first and last letters on the back of his jersey?

11. What was the longest Red Wings playoff game, in total minutes (within five minutes)?

12. Who is the only person associated with the Adirondack Red Wings to have four Calder Cup rings?

Final note: Much of this information comes from Adirondack Red Wings media guides prepared through the years, most notably by Bill Miller. And if you get all of these exactly right, we know you’re cheating. So fudge a number or two.
