Phish’s post-SPAC plans

The Saratoga Performing Arts Center may not be the only Saratoga Springs venue Phish plays when they come to town Aug. 16.

Susan Thomas, at the Parting Glass, said today that there is a “great possibility” that one or more of the band member’s will visit the Lake Avenue pub after their performance at SPAC concludes.

Gordon Stone, who has recorded and played with the Vermont-based jam band before, is scheduled to play at the Parting Glass that night beginning at 11 p.m. Parting Glass’ Web site suggests his set will include some “special guests.”

The appearance, if made, would be a fitting epilogue to the band’s reunion tour, which ends at SPAC.

Trey Anastasio became a part-time Spa City resident following a drug arrest in Washington County. I’m also told the band played at least once in the early 90s on Caroline Street, at what was then Aiko’s.

The band is meanwhile readying to release a new CD, Joy, later this month and also has plans to host a three-day festival at the end of October. The festival’s location remains shrouded in secrecy, but their Web site seems to suggest New York is an option.

Hey, if I were the owner of a bar in Toga I would claim that Phish was playing my bar too!! Why not? Start a rumor, have mulitple local newspapers bring said rumor to press, and create hype for something that will be nothing more than a Gordon Stone show and an (over)packed bar.

Anyone who thinks all (or even any) members of Phish will play–or even show up–at The Parting Glass after the last show of their summer tour are crazy and/or uninformed.
