Argyle residents Kelly Eustis and Kameron Spaulding put together a great community service with this new Web site of government information. The duo have compiled meeting minutes and budget documents from the town government.

Better Argyle isĀ a bi-partisan effort, too. Eustis is active in theĀ Republican Party and Spaulding is an organizer for the Democrats. The project started in the winter, Spaulding said in a phone interview this afternoon.

“It’s not always easy getting your hands on it even though it’s supposed to be,” Spaulding said. “It’s always been something we wanted to do.”

While the Web site is confined to Argyle for now, the pair plan on expanding the site’s reach to other areas of Washington County.

“Especially in small towns in counties like Washington County, it’s easy to hide what’s going on,” Spaulding said. “Right now it’s going to stay Argyle. Eventually it is something we’d like to expand at least through Washington County.”

Minutes often appear in the Greenwich Journal, plus there is usually a Post-Star reporter there, and more than one person. Personally, I don’t want to spend my tax money on updating a website with minutes. What about the big ledger books. I needed to see something about the repeal of the zoning stuff so I just went and asked to look at the book. No problem and no expense for me or the taxpayers.

The Argyle Stewart’s rumor mill is true, but the town does not post the minutes. You would have to request them from the town clerk or actually attend the meeting, which about 1 person each week does.

How is BetterArgyle.com editing stuff? It is scanned in?

How do we know that the town clerk didn’t edit something before it was sent in a FOIL request or via email? BetterArgyle.com would want to reveal things rather than hide them. Elected officials would be the ones to hide things.

  4. James says:

Sorry, but this is silly. Go to the board meetings or pick up minutes at the Town Hall. How do we know betterargyle.com isn’t editing the stuff on their website? In small towns it is just about impossible to hide what is going on. The rumor machine at Stewarts usually gets the word out before the minutes get posted anyway.

It’s great to see people caring about the taxpayers. The town should have given the minutes for free though.
