Non-stop campaigning

Republican and Conservative congressional candidate James Tedisco made a couple of late night campaign stops in Glens Falls on Monday.

He stood at the Oakland Avenue gate of Finch Paper and waved to workers as they left the paper mill at the 11 p.m. shift change.

Then he went to Dango’s bar on Maple Street for chicken wings and conversation with the bartender and two customers that were there.

Tedisco said he was working through the night to show he identifies with the middle class.

“They lose a lot of sleep over this recession,” he said. “I think some of their public servants should lose some sleep too if they want their votes. So we’re going to illustrate that tonight and work as hard as we can to earn their votes for tomorrow.”

Tedisco said that at an earlier stop at a bowling alley, a bowler said he was a good luck charm.

“So he said, ‘You can’t leave until I miss,’” Tedisco said. “And he got, I think there were nine strikes and then he missed.”

At another stop, a man challenged him to play billiards.

“He scratched on the eight ball,” Tedesco said. “I said, ’I hope that’s a good omen too.’”

Tedisco hopes that luck holds out when the polls in the 20th Congressional District open at 6 a.m.

Tedisco, the state Assembly minority leader, is running in today’s special election for the House seat vacated when Kirsten Gillibrand, D-Greenport, was appointed to the U.S. Senate.

Democratic, Independence and Working Families candidate Scott Murphy, a venture capitalist from Glens Falls, is scheduled to campaign outside the Finch Paper mill at 6:30 a.m. this morning.

Murphy’s other scheduled campaign stops are as follows:

* 10 a.m., greets supporters at 178 Maple St. in Glens Falls;

* 11 a.m., greets supporters at Saratoga Springs campaign headquarters at 328 Broadway;

* 2:55 p.m., greets supporters at Columbia County Democratic headquarters at 2237 Route 66 in Ghent;

* 4:40 p.m., greets supporters at Redhook campaign headquarters at 31 East Market St.;
