Ready or not — attack ads are coming (updated)
The national political organization that coordinated the “Stop Obama Tour” last year is turning its attention to stopping Democratic and Warking Families congressional candidate Scott Murphy.
The Our Country Deserves Better political action committee announced Wednesday it will begin airing an anti-Murphy television commercial in the 20th Congressional District early next week, continuing through the March 31 special election.
“The Democratic candidate, Scott Murphy, is an Obama-Democrat who supports Obama’s big spending programs including the confiscatory, taxpayer rip off they had the nerve to call a ‘stimulus’ plan,” the conservative political group said in a press release.
The group will also provide grass roots campaign support for Republican and Conservative candidate James Tedisco, said Kelly Eustis, the group’s eCampaign coordinator.
The group coordinated the national “Stop Obama Tour” during last year’s presidential election, and ran a national television commercial critical of Obama around the time on his inauguration.
The group is independent from the Tedisco campaign, said Joshua Fitzpatrick, a spokesman for the Tedisco campaign.
Asked if Tedisco agrees with the group’s characterization of the stimulus package as a “rip off,” Fitzpatrick said, “You know that’s an independent group,” and referred this reporter to a statement the campaign issued Tuesday evening in which Tedisco said he appreciated the president’s “increased focus on education and health care” in his State of the Union address.
Tedisco is focussed on implentation of the stimulus plan, Fitzpatrick continued.
“Today he was at the five-way leaders meeting with the governor saying the stimulus is the law of the land. What we have to do is make sure that this funding that has gone in a straight line from Washington to New York now goes from New York to communities that need this funding for job creation and to get our economy back on the road to recovery and that we have to do it in a manner that’s 100 percent transparent. So that’s what he’s been talking about.”
About the author:

If Tedesco cannot say if the stimulus bill was good or bad, given the pork-laden nature of the legislation designed to reward Democrat constituenies, then I cannot put money into his campaign. We do not need another Republican like Snowe, Collins or Specter who want Republican support but betray their constituency.
It is too late, the great one is in and we will all be forever sorry, except those on welfare they will reap any benefits. The rest will pay and as for tightning our belts Washington won’t
I believe it was Pres. Harding, who coined the phrase, “we need a return to normalcy”. I have little faith in either party but I have a great deal of faith in my fellow Americans (citizens all)and in our Country. It is for those reasons that we need to vote more Republicans into office so that we can fulfill the “check and balance” wisdom that our forefathers put in our Constitution.
Vote REPUBLICAN!!! We NEED to clean out this mess and corruption of non tax paying congressional members – NO MORE ONE PARTY majority – this is bordering on a dictatorship that I feel our great America needs to unite and fight!!!
Tedisco is obviously scared to take a stand in defense of taxpayers. Anyone with a modicum of intelligence knows the “stimulus” bill was nothing more than a hodge-podge of earmarks the demoncrats have floated before. It is payback for the election and an effort to buy their seats including his majesty, Obama, for years to come. It will only stimulate inflation and an increase in our taxes to pay for this massive spending. It will take back much more than it gives out. It is generational robbery! Tedisco will be just another squishy republican like Collins, Snowe, Specter et al, i.e. a RINO, which is why I left the party and registered as an Independent.
Tedisco, should have taken a position. Although, I don’t live in 20th district, I have heard lot about the conservative stand of Tedisco. We need to support him to take back the congress. Let us try to influence Tedisco from inside and not from outside. we should not sit out and repeat 2006 and 2008 fiasco.
Sapphiregirl, you are for sure playing Russian Roulette w/all barrels loaded (hence Obama). At least find out as much as you can about the candidates before voting. I agree don’t rely on ads. I don’t either buuut I for sure don’t vote on who sounds, speaks, or promises better. Look at the things they’ve stood for… That’s the problem w/Obama supporters, they NeVeR use common sense… (i.e. the guys sits in a church week after week listening to radial preaching & then vows that he NeVeR knew such things about him!!!… LOL!!!) He must think all American are idiots… KNoW your CaNDiDaTes!!! Study them!!! They will be directing your life, your wallet, & your future… whether you like it or not!!!
I think that the good people of New York are beginning to realize that you just cannot vote for a politician just because of his party. People were not listening to what the president was saying when he campaigning. He is doing just what he said he was going to do and look what is happening to our country. I did not vote for the man but I had hoped that he would bring good change to the country but I was wrong. It sounds like Mr. Murphy is just another politician that will go along with the president whatever he wants even if it is not good for the country. Seems like no one in the Congress has any guts to stand up to Mr. Oboma. Mr. Oboma comes off like a dictator or a king when he speakes to the Congress.
You can’t believe any of these guys anymore. it sounds like he’ll say anything to get elected.
save your money
Mr. Tedisco.
If you can not come out and classify yhe stimulus package as either good or bad, then I can not see how to support you.
We do not need one more RINO in Washungton
If Tedisco would take a position and tell us how he would have “hypothetically” voted, it might help.
Let’s face it Republicans should now be called:
Born Again Deficit Haters!
Tedisco needs to come out and say “I would not have voted for the pork-laden stimulus package.” He will win over a majority of Republicans. Do you know what would happen to him if he were already in Congress and had voted for it? He’d be getting primaried next time around, that’s for sure.
The other bigger thing that concerns me is why people from both parties don’t hear us constituents who continually say we are sick and tired of negative ads, and we only want to hear them speak about the issues. As soon as I hear or see a negative ad I stop paying attention because I assume it’s either a gross exaggeration, it’s been taken out of context, or it’s a plain old lie. Maybe that’s how I’ll decide for whom to vote — the one who runs the fewest negative ads…
No such thing as bad publicity, these lame attacks will up Murphy’s name recognition.
I don’t know either candidate, have heard Mr. Murphy speak publicly, impressive. To be honest, I’m baffled by his positions on many issues. Mr. Tedisco should just say he wouldn’t have voted for the stimulus, he’d get more respect from me. As of now though, from what I’ve read on Mr. Murphy, I’m voting Tedisco
It continues to “bug” me that Mr. Tedisco constantly sidesteps the question of whether or not he would have voted for the stimulus package. Perhaps he’ll have an answer later this year when he knows if it’s been effective or not. Likewise, rather than answering the question of whether or not he supports the negative ad, he has a spokesman give a politi-speak non-answer. I’m not sure this is the type of representation I want in the US Congress.
First of all, the stimulus package is a rip off. It takes taxpayer money and gives it to people who bought houses that they can’t afford and the crooked bankers who gave them mortgages they couldn’t afford. It gives out money today and passes the bill onto future generations.
How can possibly anyone argue that it isn’t a rip off?
Murphy should re-think his support of everything Obama and stick up for the taxpayers.
Second, I don’t like some of things I see in Murphy but this morning I heard a commercial on the radio (that says it isn’t connected to Tedisco’s campaign, of course!) that tries to call Murphy a “Wall-Street insider who approves of CEO bonuses.”
I don’t know how owning a small software company makes you a “wall-street insider”. Perhaps Tedisco can explain this?
Another disgusting campaign. When will these clowns ever learn?
The stimulus is wrong Tedisco. Have the guts to stand up and say so you weasil.
So Tedisco would have voted for the stimulus?
I’m sure you’re quite smart as well Mr. Citizen.
“stop Obama tour”…. that worked out well for them, out of touch, out of luck, but not out of stupidity.
